Utility Trenching

Trenching for water lines, electrical conduit, gas, and telecom. We route around root zones, existing services, and rock — and backfill to the spec your inspector needs to see.

What's Involved

How We Trench

Every utility trench starts with a locate. We confirm where existing services are before the bucket goes in the ground. The CAT 305 with the 24" dig bucket gives us precise depth control for the range most residential and light commercial utilities require — water lines, electrical conduit, gas, and telecom.

We trench to the depth your installer or inspector specifies, place bedding sand where required, and backfill in lifts with proper compaction. The trench gets closed clean — no settling, no humps, no callbacks.

Routing matters. We work around root zones of retained trees, jog around rock, and maintain clearances from existing services. If we hit something unexpected, we stop, reassess, and communicate — we don't just dig through it.

For new home builds, we can trench all utilities in one mobilization — water, electrical, and telecom in the same pass where the routes allow it. That saves the homeowner a second mobilization fee and gets the inspector on site faster.

Typical Projects

Where We Do This

Residential Water Lines

Trenching from water source or main to house. Depth to spec for frost protection in the Cariboo climate.

Electrical Conduit

Conduit runs from pole or transformer to panel. We trench, place conduit, backfill, and restore the surface.

Gas Line Trenching

Trenching for natural gas and propane lines. Proper depth, bedding, and clearances for safe installation.

Telecom & Fiber

Trenching for telecom, cable, and fiber optic runs. Shallow, precise, and routed to avoid conflicts.

Commercial Utility Corridors

Multi-utility trenching for commercial and subdivision development. Planned routes, shared corridors where possible.

Service Area

Cariboo & Province-Wide

Utility trenching for residential clients across the Cariboo — 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Lac la Hache, and Kamloops. For commercial and civil contracts, we mobilize anywhere in BC.

FAQ

Common Questions

How deep do water lines need to be in the Cariboo?

Water lines in the Cariboo typically need to be buried at least 6 feet deep to get below the frost line. Exact depth requirements depend on your location and local regulations. We dig to whatever spec your plumber or engineer calls for.

Do I need to call BC 1 Call before digging?

Yes, always. BC 1 Call is a free service that locates underground utilities before any excavation. It's required by law before any ground disturbance in BC. We handle the BC 1 Call request as part of our standard process on every trenching job.

Can you trench through rocky ground?

Yes. Our excavator runs a ripper tooth and a rock bucket for exactly this situation. Rocky ground is common in the Cariboo and we deal with it regularly. If we hit solid bedrock that needs breaking, we'll let you know and discuss options.
