Access Roads

New driveways, rural access roads, FSR upgrades, and resource road construction — from raw land to finished surface. We build for loaded trucks and BC winters with proper crown, ditch, and cross-drainage from day one.

What's Involved

How We Build Roads

A road that lasts starts with the subgrade. We strip organics, establish the road profile, and build up from there — proper crown so water sheds to the ditches, cross-drainage at low points, and culverts sized for the flow. The CAT 305 handles ditching, culvert installation, and subgrade shaping. The CAT 289D spreads and grades the surface material.

For new driveways, we clear the corridor, establish drainage, and build a surface that handles the client's traffic — whether that's a family car or loaded gravel trucks. We set the grade so spring runoff goes where it's supposed to instead of washing out the surface.

Existing driveways that need work get the same treatment. We regrade, reset crowns, clean out ditches, replace failed culverts, and bring in fresh gravel. If the road is losing surface every spring, we fix the drainage first — adding gravel on top of a drainage problem just buries the problem under more gravel.

For FSR and resource road upgrades, we widen, regrade, improve drainage, and upgrade the surface to handle the traffic the road is going to carry. We build roads that work in BC winters — freeze-thaw, spring breakup, and loaded trucks.

Typical Projects

Where We Do This

Rural Driveways

New driveway builds from highway to house site. Cleared, graded, ditched, and surfaced for year-round access.

Driveway Repair

Regrading, resurfacing, drainage correction, and culvert replacement on existing driveways that take a beating every spring.

Resource Roads

Forest service road construction and upgrades for forestry, mining, and land access. Built for loaded trucks.

Subdivision Access

Road construction for rural subdivision development. Proper geometry, drainage, and surface for residential traffic.

Industrial Access

Access roads for commercial and industrial sites. We build to the spec the project requires.

Service Area

Province-Wide

Road construction is one of our most-requested services across all markets. Residential driveways in the Cariboo — 100 Mile House, Williams Lake, Lac la Hache, Kamloops. Commercial and civil road work anywhere in BC. View our subcontractor qualifications.

FAQ

Common Questions

What kind of gravel do I need for a rural driveway?

Most Cariboo driveways use a pit run base layer for structure topped with 3/4 minus road crush for a smooth driving surface. The base layer handles the weight, the crush surface sheds water and compacts tight. We'll recommend the right material for your soil conditions.

How wide should a residential access road be?

A single-lane residential driveway is typically 12-14 feet wide. If you need two vehicles to pass or have larger equipment accessing the property, 16-20 feet is better. Fire department access requirements may also dictate minimum width — check with your local government.

Can you build a road through bush to my property?

Yes. We clear the corridor, grub the stumps, grade the subgrade, install drainage and culverts, and surface it with gravel. We build access roads through raw bush for new properties, back acreages, and resource access throughout the Cariboo.

How often should a gravel driveway be regraded?

It depends on traffic and drainage, but most Cariboo gravel driveways benefit from a regrade once a year after spring breakup. Frost heaves and runoff do a number on gravel surfaces every winter. A quick regrade in spring keeps it draining properly and extends the life of your surface material.
